01Using FindWhiz
These terms cover your use of the FindWhiz Firefox extension and findwhiz.com. By using them, you agree to these terms, subject to rights you have under applicable law. If you disagree, you can stop visiting the site and remove the extension.
These terms do not grant Firefox's optional data permission or accept a default search change. Declining the optional data setting leaves the query builder available.
02What the service does
FindWhiz builds web search queries in a Firefox toolbar popup or a wider page using keywords, an exact phrase, alternatives, excluded words, a site, a file type, page title words and URL words. Search, Presets, Filters and Settings provide a live preview, time choices, a Region picker, site chips and saved forms. Your settings, remembered fields and saved presets live only in browser storage on your device. Presets stay until you delete them or clear the extension's data, including when remembering is off.
The contextMenus permission enables the right click "Search with FindWhiz" item for selected text. It passes that text to the FindWhiz builder on your computer and then to Yahoo only if you press Search. Type fw and a space followed by text in the address bar for a plain Yahoo search, or submit without text to open the wider builder. These searches go directly to Yahoo. No selected text, search query or saved preset is sent to FindWhiz.
This addon requests permission to update your default search engine to Yahoo. Firefox handles that prompt, and you decide. You can change your default in Firefox Search settings. Completing FindWhiz's welcome page does not change that choice.
FindWhiz is distributed directly from findwhiz.com and signed by Mozilla. It has no public listing on the Mozilla addons site. Firefox uses the update file on findwhiz.com to find signed updates.
03Permitted use
You may use FindWhiz to build and open lawful searches. You are responsible for the queries you enter and for complying with laws and the terms of the websites you visit. Do not use the site or extension to harm others, interfere with services or infringe another person's rights.
04Ownership
FindWhiz retains rights in its name, logo and original extension and website content. Installing the extension gives you permission to use it under these terms and does not transfer ownership. Third party names and materials remain the property of their respective owners.
05Privacy and your choices
The FindWhiz privacy policy explains local storage, normal website requests and Firefox's optional technical and interaction data setting. The extension sends no reports to a server. Any optional install page messages remain subject to Firefox's native permission and do not authorize website analytics.
06Other services and independence
The contact form uses FormSubmit to deliver your message to support. Information you choose to submit through that form is separate from the local search builder. The website sample only shows a query and URL, and sends neither to a search provider.
Yahoo supplies the search results and decides how search operators work. The day, week and month filter and region picker use Yahoo URL options that Yahoo does not document and may change. We do not control or guarantee those options, the results, the availability of Yahoo or content on a website you reach. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies.
FindWhiz is independent and is not affiliated with Yahoo or Mozilla. Mozilla's signature is part of Firefox's extension distribution process. It does not mean Mozilla endorses FindWhiz or its search results.
07No warranty
To the extent allowed by law, the extension and website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not promise uninterrupted operation, error free results, fitness for a particular purpose or continued availability of a search provider. Search filters express a query and do not guarantee that Yahoo will return particular results.
08Limits on liability
To the extent allowed by law, FindWhiz is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses arising from use of the extension, website or search results. Our total liability for claims connected to FindWhiz is limited to $0 or the amount you paid for FindWhiz, whichever is greater.
Some places do not allow these exclusions or limits. They apply only where lawful and do not limit liability that the law does not allow us to exclude, or any mandatory consumer rights.
09Claims caused by misuse
To the extent allowed by law, you agree to cover reasonable third party claims and costs caused by your unlawful use of FindWhiz or your violation of these terms. This does not require you to cover claims caused by FindWhiz's own unlawful conduct.
10Stopping use and service changes
You can stop using FindWhiz at any time by removing it through Firefox's extensions settings. The extension opens no uninstall page and sends no uninstall report. You can also check your default search choice in Firefox Settings under Search.
We may change or stop offering downloads, updates or the website. Nothing in these terms promises ongoing service. We cannot remotely remove an installed extension through this website.
11Governing law
These terms are governed by California law, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Where applicable law permits, disputes are subject to courts in California. Mandatory local consumer protections remain in place. This clause does not waive GDPR rights or other rights that cannot be waived, including any right to bring a claim in your local courts.
12Changes and contact
We may revise these terms and update the effective date. Continued use after revised terms take effect means you accept them, to the extent allowed by law. A change to these terms does not change Firefox's permission choices.
